I have a inexpensive “Memory” dvd player. I purchased some educational dvds several months ago and have sparsely used any of them. When I first got them they all work great. They all work great until today, that is. I turned one on today, and found out there was pieces of information missing. The instructor would be explaining his theory and then there would be a blank space in the audio for a short period of time. It total destroys the use of this video as you often miss out on important chunks of information/directions that the instructor is trying to teach you. I thought it was just a isolated incident with one dvd, so I tried several out and apparently (same group of dvds) they now all have this imperfection that wasn’t there before. This has just happened as I had these out last week and they were all fine. They seem to be blanking out in roughly the same area on the Dvd. I am really disheartened about this as I was depending and looking forward to this instruction and they cost several hundred dollars. I don’t believe I purchased them that way, as mentioned above this is the first time it has happened. Does anyone know what has happened to them and how do I correct them if it is possible. I looked them over and they seem to be in very good condition. There were no major scratches. I cleaned them off delicately and dried them off were carefully making sure that I didn’t get scratches or dirt on them but they still skip. Do you think it is the player or the disks? I have purchased new cds and dvds that don’t look as well as these – they are immaculate. That is why I am so perplexed as I tried to take very good care of them and also, as I mentioned above, I have not used them that much or abused them. Could someone have put them into another dvd player and possible messed them up? How about electrical storms? We’ve had several bad one go through here this week. Is there any way for pieces to be automatically erased? I had an older dvd machine that still works and hooked it up and stuck them in and still got the same thing. Apparently, perhaps it is the DVD’S Thank You ahead of time for your answers, I would appreciate if someone could enlighten me about what has happend and what I need to repair them. I have a investment in these and I don’t want to lose it. Best Wishes – GDH
As mentioned above there was no problem with the audio until today and again as mentioned above I took an old Dvd player that still worked and plugged in the disk and it still had that problem and its more than just one disk. It has got me baffled. Can someone vandalize them some way? I don’t see how it could have been done, though, I’ve been home most of the time this week. It apparently, just happened.
They were working just great.

So here’s my back story. My boyfriend and I bought a bike on craigslist for 0. It’s an old Honda CB750, the same bike his dad had when he was a young lad. We bought it to get it fixed up and give it to him for Christmas. We found another guy on craigslist to fix it, claiming he’d worked on these bikes before. He assessed the damage, and offered to get it running for a total of 0 including parts. At our request, he provided me with an itemized list of materials:

Battery:
Shipping & Handling:
Fuel lines:
Bolt & Washers:
Gas tank chemicals (flush, derust):
Oil, oil filter, oil flush:
Carb gaskets, floats, needles & seat: 0
Carb cleaner and engine degreaser:
Electrical rewiring and soldering:
…and charged 0 for labor.

We picked up the bike and rode it home. It came home fine, but the second it got here, it started leaking gas and oil. The next time my boyfriend turned it on, it wouldn’t shut off. He tried turning off the bike with the switch, taking the key out and it would start revving like it was trying to start, but it was already on. Eventually he had to disconnect the battery in order to get it to shut off. Now we’ve got a leaky bike that won’t start or shut off.

Here’s a video of this happening: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7pt6GBGz2o
Did we get screwed? We put in the repair contract that he needed to do “anything required to provide a reliably running machine.” and requested that he notify us if the original quote changed. He did, and we ended up paying 8.
What do you think?

TL;DR: We know nothing about motorcycle repair.
James- Thank you so much for your input. I think the real dispute here comes from the original contract we had with the guy. He offered to get the bike running reliably for that price, which I just found out was actually 0 more for labor, but was unable to deliver. I wish I knew an older bike wasn’t going to be reliable regardless, we would have eschewed the nostalgia of the old bike and bought him something more reliable.

Thank you
