First Ever Job Interview?

By , April 22, 2010

Got a job interview on Thursday, its for an apprentice electrician position at a fairly big firm.
Anyway its my first ever interview and I have no idea what i’ll be asked. Will the questions be general or about the job, and what sort of questions usually come up at a job interview?
Is there anyone who has being interviewed for an electricians job who might be able to give me an idea of what they might ask etc?

T he interview will be mostly about you and your personality, do you come over as enthusiastic, bright and like-able ,
The electrical conversation will be low key and not too difficult for you , just show some enthusiasm,

As it’s been said they won’t be asking you any technical questions as you haven’t had any relevent experience (if you have be sure to mention it). What they will be looking at is you attitude and traights. Wether you’re enthusiastic, work hard, enjoy challenges, have good interpersonnal skills, are comitted, what attracted you to become a… etc.
Make sure you rether to the job as a CAREER – this shows your comittment and ambition and so will make them far more likely to invest in you.
One last piece of advice, make sure you draft up a few question to ask THEM at the end of the interview. Once again shows you’re enthusiastic and inquisitive. I.e. What would your day-to-day responsibilities be? Potential for career development? Training/qualifications received? Etc.
Don’t worry if you are nevous, this is often seen as a good thing as it show that it really matters to you!
    Good luck with whatever happens.
    Peace.

I would expect mostly general questions such as ‘why do you want the job?’, ‘why do you want to be an electrician?’ ‘why do you think you will be a good electrician?’.
You might be asked to talk about any experience you have of electrics, either in a previous job or simply DIY.
It is unlikely that you will be asked detailed technical questions as it is an apprentice position and this is what you will be learning in the job.
    Hope that helps,
    Janice

They just want to meet you and see whether you are enthusiastic about the job, they will want someone who is eager to learn and has plenty of common sense. They won’t ask you anything technical as you would be learning on the job. They know you have the qualifications to enable you for the position, now they just want to meet a likeable person they would like to train up.

Good luck. I think you will go far, you sound like you have a good head on those shoulders and want to make somthing of yourself, if you can convey that on thursday then you’ll do just fine! And remember, even if you feel nervous, smile!! They want to see a happy smiling person :)
