I’ve heard you can join the Navy and receive training as an electrician… is this true?

Yes, but get in writing when you talk to the recruiter. Keep in mind though that the bulk of the electrical work you will be doing will be aboard ship. Consider the Air Force or Army if you are more interested in residential/commercial/industrial electrical work.
Keep in mind also that if yoiu do join, you may be dodging bullets and IED’s. We are at war. Not trying to disuade you; just think you need to consider all angles before you jump. If you do enlist, thank you.

You would be an Electricians Mate in the Navy. If you go through with this then when you get out you will be highly employable. Either as a Union Electrician or with a smaller electrical outfit. Good luck and I think you are making a wise decision.

I want to reinforce one of the previous answers. Make sure before you sign anything, that when you enter the Navy, you request electrician training. You may have to wait for an opening in school assignment.
