Is becoming an electrician a good career path?

By , July 6, 2010

I am a first year apprentice and am second guessing myself on whether or not it’s worth it. I have to make a decision on my career and really like my job but is it a good job to pursue?

You seem to be headed in the right direction. You’re learning a valuable trade and it’s one that will be needed far into the foreseeable future. If you also happen to like it, then that’s just icing on the cake!

I am also a first year apprentice, I live out in PA.

Can;t see why it would not be a good career to pursue( that is what it is a job is more or less a temp thing if you ask me). I don;t know where you live but right now the electricians I work with make atleast $35 a hour and there is talk it will be more once I top out.

Lets be honest, if you quit and go to college for something you will end up in debt no way around it and where else can you make that kind of money you can as a electrican.

I am 3.5 years into my electrical apprenticeship program and only have 6 months left. I started right out of high school and have never really looked at it as a career path. I’m doing it more for job security, I’m not really sure what I want to do with my life but as a qualified electrician I know I will be able to basically go anywhere and know I can get a decent paying job. It’s defiantly a good career path, it’s just a question of if that is what you really want to do.
