my husband is an electrician has been for 12 years HOWEVER hes not getting the best pay he could where?
are good places for him to look into to get better pay? we live in notheastern PA and we both work in New York. does anyone have any good websites to look at that offer electrician jobs. hes only making 20 an hour which is decent but not great. hes excellent and has letter after letter of recommnedations and hes friends with several electric inspectors. his boss loves him but wont pay him anymore because he think hes paid well. i think they take advantgage of him because hes only 31. but his boss and his previous bos have both said they would never let him go. SO WHATS THE DEAL?
What’s the going rate in the area he works in?
Is he willing to quit his current job if he doesn’t get a raise? I’ve worked for electrical companies in the upstate NY area and that’s a pretty good rate.
If the current boss won’t give him a monetary raise, perhaps your husband should inquire about having more benefits…maybe paying all of your insurance premium.
Look up http://www.salary.com That will give you prevailing wage by region and experience level. With knowledge you can negotiate.
It’s the capitalistic way of supply and demand. Builders pay what they have to get what they need. In other words his boss will probably not pay him any more than what it would cost to replace him.
Your husband should know more than anyone, the local market value of his skill If he doesn’t he should be finding out. If he is underpaid or under appreciated his first option is to go job shopping.
Industrial contractors generally pay more for electricians because of the extra demands (conditions, hours and travel) and the different skills involved.
Union rates are usually higher because of collective bargaining. He could get information from the IBEW local union hall.
