I have a long run (300ft) between the house and an outbuilding. I want to supply a 15 Amp circuit to a receptacle in the outbuilding from a spare breaker slot on my house panel. The distance/load/voltage drop calculators tell me that I am going to have to use #4 (could maybe squeeze by with #6) wire. In order to meet code my plan was to use 4-2 or 6-2 cable buried at 18 inches in PVC conduit. Problem is none of the electrical shops supply 4-2 or 6-2 so I’m thinking there must be a different standard or a more practical solution. What type of insulator meets code in Canada for burial in conduit? Do people normally pull individual conductors? Should I be looking at direct burial instead? If so, what is the standard wire type for that? There is lots of stuff on the web pertaining to US code but I’m having trouble figuring out what is accepted practice in Canada.

Hello,
I’m a 22 year old irishman living in dublin now and ive been qualified from a 4 year apprenticeship for about 2 years but became unemployed soon after i passed my exams when the recession started.
Can i just apply for a 1 year visa and go and try find work.
Do i need to pass exams or meet some other requirements to be able to get a job?
I was thinking of going to vancouver as the winter isnt as cold, would it be a better choice than say toronto or calgary?
What do canadians think of the irish?
Is there much irish travelling or working in canada?
Also i have an uncle living in toronto for the past forty years, would i need him to help me get a job or get by on my own in vancouver?
Thanks.

Do you think Alberta is the best place to go in canada now from the uk ? ( or in my case 3 to 4 years now )

And i heard that skilled workers applying for permanent residence get a fast track immigration now ? how long is that average ?
is there many jobs available in vancouver ?

Hi,
I am thinking of moving to Canada from the UK. I have been qualified for over a year and have a BSC ECON Social Work degree. I have been working for 6 months as a Social Worker in a Children’s Disability Team in the UK. I plan to apply to migrate to Canada in a couple of years. Can anyone tell me if I would need to complete any top up courses or have any further training to work in Canada? What is the salary for Social Workers in Canada. I currently receive 25,000 British pounds/year. Does anyone know how much tax is paid? I currently pay 20% tax.

I am also unsure where the best place would be for us to move. We dont want to move somewhere where they receive a lot of snow in winter but as we are from the UK we are quite used to having snow in winter every year so its not a problem!! We want to get away from the rainy summers of the uk so a place that is warm in summer is important to us to compensate for the cold winters!! Ideally we would like to live somewhere where cost of property is low but also close to my work- I assume social work offices are in larger built up areas?? I would be willing to drive approx 45 mins to get to work. I have been looking at Winnipeg area as the cost of properties are low. (we would like to spend up to 100,000 canadian dollars).
Does anyone know of an area close to the sea (within 2 hours drive) that would be good for work for me and also have cheaper properties?? My husband is a Electrician therefore this is also a consideration when looking for places to live close to work.

Any advice or info would be very much appreciated as we are in the early stages of deciding.
Thanks
Nicola
