I am going to be rooming with someone in a hotel in China. I don’t know how many outlets/plug-ins I will be able to find, and what types of plugs I will be able to use.

I know that there are three different outlet types used in China. European 2-pin
US/Japan 2-prong
Australia 2-prong along with a 3rd pin option
Hong Kong has another one entirely

I am also aware that 220V is the standard, and not 110V. I know that some hotels have the all the plug options all in one space, without the Hong Kong one. However, does that mean that I could plug in more than one thing by using those? For example: one Euro 2-pin and one Australia 2-prong? Alternatively, could I use a US 2-prong on the top, and then use an adapter to take advantage of the Australian portion?

Also, I want to have a power strip (A.K.A. Surge Protector) that will accept US 2-prong or US 3-prong, while keeping things safe. My laptop adapter and cell phone charger are both rated for 110V – 240V.

When I have visited RadioShack, they all said to buy the European 2-pin adapter. I have been told this is wrong by a foreign electronics store, and by simple observation of various adapters. Additionally, they said that I would need a heavy power converter in order to handle the draw needed for multiple things being plugged in. I initially wondered if I could get a US 3-prong adapter and then take a US surge protector. I guess it isn’t possible.

What would work?

Okay, so I used to be an electronics technician in the Navy. And in my electronic/electrical calibration school I learned all about thermo coupling. Thermo coupling is the process of taking two different metals and fusing them together in a way that, for a lack of better word, absorbs the movement of molecules caused by heat and in the process turns it into current. Got that? Thermo coupling turns heat directly into current.

So, here is the big question no one has ever been able to answer for me…

Why don’t we use thermo coupling in our homes in our iceboxes and our AC to power the house?

Everyone knows that at least half of all electricity used in a house is used to power the icebox and AC. If that was giving power instead of taking power, wouldn’t that be enough to power the house?
“I guess , just the cost of the actual thermo coupling process , if there is a safe and efficient way to fuse the two metals without killing someone grabbing there ice tray , that would work .”

Naw, it’s very safe to use, and I think that it’s not that hard to make. Someone once told me that the metals needed for something that was effective enough to run a fridge would need to be platinum and nickel and thus too expensive. I don’t know if he knew what he was talking about though.
Oh, and Anteras…

Shut up you pathetic friendless douche.

“I think you’re confused. The laws of thermodynamics aren’t readily absorbed into the brain. A person must understand the process before he can use it to his advantage.”

Oh, you mean like you can’t make energy from nothing? Like the heat isn’t being transformed into current? Stop trying to throw around words that you don’t know, you little weasel.

“Thermocoupling is common in many household appliances.”

Yes it is, but only as a means to cool IC chips.

“If what you are stating was true or even possible, someone would have realized it early on, say a 100 years ago or so.”

Yeah, that’s what I’m doing… Trying to publish an invention idea on Y!A…

I hear it is competitive. It’s a little intimidating, but how good you need to be? Here’s what I got:

Active Duty Air Force experience as an Electronic Warfare Technician – Honorably Discharge as an Senior Airman E-4
Two years stationed in Germany; I had a lot of achievements, leadership experience, a few small awards, finished training in 2/3 normal time, etc.

I just got into my senior year at a fair college, University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Major in Psychology/minor in Biology
I should finish with about a 3.4 GPA and in only three years.

I am a counselor in training at a halfway house, working on a Addictions Counselor licence. I’ve clocked a lot of hours and should have the licence by the time I get my B.A.. I study, do charting, observe and assist in one on one sessions and will soon have my own patient.

I am multi-talented. I play piano, bass, sing, write.

I worry about my GPA but I hope this other stuff will make a difference, will it?
