I asked that question because i was seeking home owners insurance with another company and they asked me that question. My electrical outlets in the house are 3 prong and when I looked in the panel box on the switches I saw that it said 120/240v I am not sure if that is what I should be looking at as far how much amps of power is coming in. I just wanted to know how what answer i would give the insurance agent as to what type of wiring was in the home. I may just call an electrician. Thanks for all the answers thus far.

Im going to start college soon, and I was thinking of trying to find a job in construction while Im at school.

Is this a smart idea, if so how would I go about getting a job in this feild. I dont have much experience but I know how to use most tools and Im a very hard worker who learns quickly.

Would it be difficult for me to find an employer?

Hi, I’m currently a grade 12 student trying to become and electrician. I’m enrolled in a program called OYAP. (ontario youth apprenticeship program) Which basically means on mondays and fridays I go to college in the city for inschool classes for first term electrical. On tuesdays-thursdays I work in and around town with a master electrician. Sort of like an apprentice, but I get no money BUT my hours count towards my apprenticeship.
Last year I worked at an electrical wholesale store, so I already knew all the technical terms for all the equipment and stuff we would be dealing with.

So when I’m finished this program in June, I will have completed my first term apprenticeship.

Would it be difficult for me to find an employer? I will still only be 17 when I start looking for someone to take me on. Would my age affect anything or is it strictly based on experience?

How do I find a cheap, registered & certified electrician ?

I am having to buy a brand new electric cooker (the previous one having been burned to a cinder ) and the council have told me it is now a legal requirement that electric cookers are installed by fully qualified and registered electricians. The cost of the cooker itself is causing enough problems to raise and so I need to get it installed as cheaply, but legally as possible. The alternative is to find the cheapest deal from a supplier who will also install and deliver. Any help/suggestions would be so gratefully received. Please, please don’t raise the subject of insurance as it’s a very sore subject at the moment !

because i can’t think of anything…
I mean, i have things that interest me, but they are practically useless.
I could say I’m good at psychology, especially treating phobias, I even helped one friend overcome his phobia. But i know there are so much people studying it at universities, and i herd a lot of stories about people graduating psychology without a place to work. Plus my father doesn’t want me to study medicine.
I’m also quite good at chemistry, but i don’t know if i should get into it, because what i’m learning is, i guess, only the intermediate level of it, i can’t imagine what would happen if i start studying chemistry just to find out the higher levels are too hard for me to handle.
I’m very interested in sleep disorders and such, i’ve been reading about them for more than 1.5-2 years, but i think the world doesn’t need a lot of sleep specialists, so i don’t know if i should get into it too.
Also astronomy, i’m very interested in it, have beet reading about stuff online for a few years or more, but it’s also a profession where you don’t need a lot of specialists.
I’m good at physics, started electronics not long ago, it’s quite easy and interesting but not that interesting enough for me to actually study it in university.
Also i’m interested in linguistics quite a lot, i even made a life goal to be a polyglot, currently I know my mother language, english, russian and learning japanese (I bet you would never guessed i’m not a native english speaker, ha!). Since i’m still in high school, I guess that’s an accomplishment. but what can i do with a linguistic degree? Nothing much I think…

I don’t know what to do… the things that interest me are fields that don’t require a lot of specialists (except electrician engineer) or are practically useless. Should i just be guided by gut, getting into the field that i’m really interested? Or go with physics, since i understand it easily, even if it doesn’t interest me to the fullest?
