I am going to be rooming with someone in a hotel in China. I don’t know how many outlets/plug-ins I will be able to find, and what types of plugs I will be able to use.

I know that there are three different outlet types used in China. European 2-pin
US/Japan 2-prong
Australia 2-prong along with a 3rd pin option
Hong Kong has another one entirely

I am also aware that 220V is the standard, and not 110V. I know that some hotels have the all the plug options all in one space, without the Hong Kong one. However, does that mean that I could plug in more than one thing by using those? For example: one Euro 2-pin and one Australia 2-prong? Alternatively, could I use a US 2-prong on the top, and then use an adapter to take advantage of the Australian portion?

Also, I want to have a power strip (A.K.A. Surge Protector) that will accept US 2-prong or US 3-prong, while keeping things safe. My laptop adapter and cell phone charger are both rated for 110V – 240V.

When I have visited RadioShack, they all said to buy the European 2-pin adapter. I have been told this is wrong by a foreign electronics store, and by simple observation of various adapters. Additionally, they said that I would need a heavy power converter in order to handle the draw needed for multiple things being plugged in. I initially wondered if I could get a US 3-prong adapter and then take a US surge protector. I guess it isn’t possible.

What would work?

I am wondering what the going rate for an electrician to perform this service costs. The location is central texas, please let me know a fair rate that i can expect to be charged.
The location for the outlet is in my garage. The GFCF outlet is not the main GFCF, but one outlet on the line. THe main outlet is also in the garage, and the other two outlets on the line are outside wall outlets on the side of my house that I usually use for the weedwacker. I’ve been told not to use the GFCF outlet for a small freezer because I don’t want to lose the meat or food I’d be storing in the freezer. Opinions?

What would be a competitive rate for an electrician to install a 220 plug for a dryer? They would have to run a line…there isn’t one there now. Thanks.
Yeah, a professional. It’s already done. He ran it about 25 feet and charged 5. I thought it was high, but agreed because the company came highly recommended. He did a great job, but I thought the price seemed really high, considering he was in my house less than an hour. Just wondering if that was normal or outrageous.
Thanks for all the answers…I appreciate it!
Thanks curlyjacek for the extra info. We went from gas to electric thinking it would be cheaper than moving the gas line to where we needed it to be…after reading your answer I’m thinking maybe not so much lol. Especially after the 5!! Thanks though!
