Depending on where you live, you could join the local union, have 4 years as an apprentice and on the 4th year become a journeyman which is accompanied by a $15 an hour raise :-)

Go to the labor department. They should have listings for apprenticeship openings or listings for testing dates (a lot of companies like General Motors hire skilled trades people through tests). Also, check the website “America’s Job Bank” online for apprenticeship openings. You start out as a journeyman and work your way into fully certified.

It depends on what state you are in as to whether you have to be licensed as an apprentice. However, the majority of states require a journeyman to be tested and licensed. For an apprentice, check your local paper for ads for apprentices needed. You will learn the license requirements from the contractor that hires you. Alternately, contact your state Health Dept (they often oversee the licensing) or Construction board for licensing requirements.
A first-year apprentice, on the other hand, is not required to have any experience or training. You get that as you go.
A journeyman license will require experience and usually testing. Again, just depends on your state. In Oklahoma, where our business is located, journeymen are required to have a combined total of 8000 hours of on-the-job training and/or education, but at least 4000 of the hours must be on-the-job. Other states are less stringent.

First of all, You would have to get more traning in electrical work. Also, You would have to be sertifide in your state,Take a test. pass that test and be tested again. It take a lot of learning.Check with your state to see if they have a comuinity collage that offeres training in electrical school.
