What Can Expect To Pay An Electrician For This Job?

By , June 20, 2010

I want to replace a few fluorescent “tube” light fixtures with 4-6 recessed “can” style light fixtures. Also, would it be cheaper to purchase the fixtures myself?

Assuming this is in a finished space (drywall ceiling) this will be an expensive job. It will require fishing wires through joists and the ceiling, cutting holes, then patching the drywall. I would expect somewhere around $1,000 to $1,200.
It will likely be marginally cheaper for you to purchase the fixtures yourself. Most contractors will mark up their materials 10%.
