By , May 25, 2010

I am in my mid 20′s and make about double what an apprentice would make and I have a wife and 2 kids. I kind of fell into the desk job i have now and really need to change jobs. I want to start a career as an electrician. I need some advice.

For general career info: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search ‘electricians’ or such. There are some additional websites at the end of the entry.

Please forgo those private $$ tech schools and instead consider the county vo-tech school or community college as long as it’s accredited within the industry.

Just fyi that apprenticeships can be competitive to gain acceptance into with the person usually needing to take an entrance exam (and they say that it’s better to know someone — that ol’ saying “it’s not what you say but who you know” ;)
