I’m looking to change my career. I would like to enroll in a university to learn about sustainability to hopefully earn a green job.

Depends on your interest – if it’s on the ground work (e.g., installation, etc.), a community college would probably be your best option. If it’s research and development, a green-oriented engineering degree – many schools have specializations in alternative energy R&D.

The Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC) has taken a leadership role in developing quality and competency standards for solar and renewable energy professionals and training programs. You can take a look at certified classes available at http://irecusa.org/irec-programs/workforce-development/. They list both 4 year degree programs and multi-day certified technology and installation training.

Universities, colleges and other institutions are offering degree programs, diplomas, courses and trainings in that area … i compiled a list of sites you’ll find helpful…
